How did a foreign, Emmy nominated media company end up creating an immersive film about the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company? That's the power of the Koffman! Koffman member company 2immersive4u, founded by Filip Milinković and Dusan Simic, creates 3D computer generated animated films that do not require the traditional VR headset normally needed. 2immersive creates interactive, virtual reality experiences that are viewable on traditional electronic devices such as laptops, tablets and smart phones. After joining the Koffman and learning about the Southern Tier and surrounding area, the story of EJ inspired the duo and thus their latest project took shape.

Koffman Clean Energy Company Enerpoly Closes $1.5M Seed Round

Enerpoly recently closed a $1.5 million seed round. Enerpoly develops zinc-ion batteries that offer a sustainable solution for stationary energy storage. Enerpoly’s patented technology uses cost-effective raw materials, such as zinc, which can be sourced in Sweden and Europe. This can contribute to the region’s global competitiveness within the fast-growing battery industry. Zinc-ion technology can help Europe catch up in the global race, in establishing both strategic autonomy and sustainability for its clean energy system.

Koffman Southern Tier Incubator Named Semifinalists in Round 2 of the DOE’s Energy Program for Innovation Clusters Prize

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has named the semifinalists in the American-Made Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) Prize Round 2. Twenty-four incubators and accelerators across the country were each awarded $50,000 in cash prizes for their high-impact ideas that support energy start-ups and entrepreneurs. The Koffman's proposal presented New Energy New York Charge Up, a bootcamp and microgrant program to address major gap areas for energy storage startups, powered by the New Energy New York battery innovation, manufacturing, and workforce development initiative.

Accelerator and I-Corps Grad’s Language Learning Startup Forges Connections

Binghamton University Professor Marisol Marcin, saw a need for Spanish language students to speak with and learn from native Spanish speakers. Marcin took this along with her passion for education and founded Lengaus Club. After completing the Binghamton Accelerator Program and NSF I-Corps through the Koffman, Marcin's business took off.

Koffman Southern Tier Incubator startup company KLAW Industries has been awarded $500,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to expand their operations in Binghamton and further develop the technology behind their high-performance, low-carbon concrete product made from recycled materials.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Castillo visited Binghamton University yesterday to meet with the New Energy New York coalition members and show the Biden Administration the value of the Southern Tier's place in battery research. The visit comes just weeks after New Energy New York's $113M award for battery research and development as part of the Build Back Better Regional Challenge.

Recipe for success: Koffman company founder brings bubble tea to Binghamton University campus

When Leighton Blackwood first came to Binghamton University, he was disappointed to discover how hard it was for him to get bubble tea, one of his favorite drinks back in his hometown of Queens, N.Y. So, he set out to change that. Blackwood, who majored in business administration with a concentration in marketing, is now the founder and owner of 2nd Heaven, a campus bubble tea (also called boba) shop run out of the MarketPlace in The Union. 2nd Heaven sells juice teas, milk teas, iced teas and lattes that can be customized into over 100 possible drink combinations.

Binghamton University-led battery initiative wins $113 million to bolster domestic battery manufacturing and supply chain

New Energy New York, developed by the university and NY-Best, has been awarded more than $113 million to establish a hub for battery technology innovation in upstate New York. The U.S. Economic Development Administration announced Friday that the region will receive $63.7 million; the State of New York will support the project with an additional $50 million.
