Binghamton University offers 400+ clubs and organizations to its students. Even with all these options, students were having a hard time finding a club to express their entrepreneurial sides. With these students in mind, the Bingtrepreneur Club was born. This newly established club held its first meeting downtown at the Koffman Incubator, with the aim to create a community of students with interests in entrepreneurship and foster student entrepreneurship.
Andre Haykal, a student entrepreneur and student ambassador for the Koffman Incubator, serves as an acting president, coordinating club meetings and creating an online community for 40+ members. Haykal enthusiastically laid out what the club has to offer for members on top of the regular meet-ups.
For example, Haykal will invite experts and business leaders to host workshops throughout the semester. We live in an information age where there is so much potential to do things on the Internet, but not all the things are taught in the college classrooms, said Haykal. His aim is to help club members to hone skills that they can immediately apply to their entrepreneurial projects.
The club also takes advantage of the latest technology and brings in resources. Not only does the Slack channel serve as an online community for members, but it also serves as an accessible resource, providing mentorships and guidance from seasoned entrepreneurs at the incubator.
The first meeting was concluded with the tour of the Incubator. Laura Holmes, Director of Operations at the Incubator, unveiled what the incubator has to offer for students and encouraged students to utilize them. Holmes accentuated how college students are apt to launch businesses, having less financial constraints and more resources. This club would surely be one of the strong resources for students to materialize their entrepreneurial passions.
