After being announced as a winner of 76West’s Clean Energy Competition last summer, EthosGen, a clean energy company, has moved its development and research operations entirely to the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator.

76West is a state-operated competition that rewards companies promising to bring clean energy services and jobs specifically to the Southern Tier region of New York. Winners are chosen once annually for each year between 2016 and 2019, with prizes ranging from $250,000 (the amount won by EthosGen) to $1 million.

EthosGen specializes in transforming heat waste to resilient, renewable energy sources. Its Sorption-Energy System captures different forms of industrial heat including solar, geothermal and that produced by manufacturing processes before converting them into storable energy sources with cooling capacities. This improves existing systems without the need for complete replacement.

A condition of the 76West award requires winners to either relocate to the Southern Tier, or to develop a significant working relationship with the region. The stipulation ensures subsequent economic growth and development for the surrounding community.

As the August 2017 award recipient, EthosGen made the move to Binghamton’s Koffman Southern Tier Incubator and is one of nine clean energy companies in the incubator’s Clean Energy Program. The program provides companies with mentoring in entrepreneurship and the growing field of clean energy.

Richard Kaufman, chairman of energy and finance for New York State, said the companies recognized by 76West play an integral role in the Southern Tier’s economic future and the fight against climate change.
