If you’re searching for the racquetball courts on the lower level of the West Gym and come across what looks like a miniature indoor golf course, you’re in the right place. You’ve discovered the golf simulation room at Binghamton University, featuring one of PLATFORM Golf’s cutting-edge putting platforms. This innovative platform is redefining golf training, benefiting both Binghamton’s golf team and players around the globe. Co-founded by Binghamton alumni Thomas Hackett ’08 and Rob Gibb ’02, PLATFORM Golf has grown into a thriving business, bridging the gap between traditional golf and modern technology to help players refine their skills in ways previously unimaginable.
Bridging the gap between technology and the green
PLATFORM Golf’s innovative system allows players to make real putts on a tilting green while practicing approach shots from uneven lies, seamlessly integrating with leading golf simulators to replicate on-course conditions with precision. This advanced platform simulates real slopes and breaks, providing a comprehensive training tool for golfers.
“One of the things that really sets the platform apart is the ‘made putt feeling,’” says Hackett. “It’s that moment when the platform simulates the sensation of sinking a putt, which is crucial for building confidence and muscle memory.”
PLATFORM Golf’s roots trace back to early explorations in sports technology. As a golf pro at North Jersey Country Club, Gibb purchased a Science & Motion PuttLab, quickly becoming one of the first in the U.S. to achieve its highest certification. His early expertise with that product helped shape the idea and vision for PLATFORM Golf. Hackett then took the lead in formalizing the business in 2019, securing funding, and bringing in PGA Tour agent Rory Flanagan to expand the company’s reach. Today, the company’s flagship product is used by elite Division I golf programs, including Cal Berkeley and Notre Dame, and professional golfers alike. “What started as a simple putting platform has evolved into a comprehensive system that enhances every aspect of a golfer’s game,” says Hackett. “Our goal is to create technology that mimics the challenges players face on the green, providing an experience that closely replicates real-world conditions.”
A bold new era
PLATFORM Golf has announced a major rebrand, transitioning from its original identity as Perfection Platforms, backed by a multi-million-dollar investment aimed at scaling operations and advancing innovation. This strategic move positions the company to further its mission of revolutionizing golf training and simulation technology.
“Our rebrand to PLATFORM Golf is more than a new name—it’s a bold step toward empowering players and coaches with technology that bridges on-course and off-course play,” says Hackett.
The investment will enable the company to expand its global reach, enhance its innovation pipeline, and solidify its leadership in the golf technology industry. With support from influential investors, industry leaders, and prominent figures in the golf world, the company has built a network that reinforces its position and contributions to advancing golf technology.
From campus roots to startup success
As Binghamton alumni, Hackett credits the University for laying the foundation for his entrepreneurial success. His experiences on the University’s golf team and the skills gained at the School of Management helped shape the vision for PLATFORM Golf. The University’s golf team has also benefited from this partnership. The PLATFORM Golf system installed in the West Gym was donated by the founders. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have PLATFORM Golf’s putting platform. It’s been a game changer for our team,” says Binghamton Golf Coach Bernie Herceg. “Our players are able to simulate so many different varieties of putts, which helps us with game-time situations. It’s not just for the offseason either. We utilize the platform year-round to perfect our putting technique, where we are much more efficient and productive to be properly prepared for all of our tournaments.”
PLATFORM Golf has been a proud member of the university operated Koffman Southern Tier Incubator for two years, benefiting from mentorship, networking opportunities, and access to capital through the incubator’s Business Incubator Program. “The Koffman has been great, especially working with our mentor, Eric Krohn,” says Hackett. “Eric knows every resource available within Binghamton University’s network, as well as the public and private sectors. The mentorship we’ve received has been critical in turning our vision into reality.” Koffman’s support has helped PLATFORM Golf navigate the challenges of scaling their business, secure funding, and connect with key players in the golf industry. “To any entrepreneur, I highly recommend being part of the Koffman Incubator. It’s a Tier 1 space with Tier 1 people making a global impact,” Hackett adds.
Taking golf innovation global
PLATFORM Golf’s impact extends far beyond the Southern Tier. The company is now serving golfers and instructors around the world, with a secondary office in Ireland and installations at top training facilities and universities globally. Their innovative platform is being used by golf programs and professionals globally, and they have plans to expand their reach even further. “Indoor simulated golf is a space ripe for innovation,” says Hackett. “Our vision is to create a singularity between on-course and off-course play, addressing the experience gap in simulator golf.”
Looking ahead, PLATFORM Golf is set to broaden its global presence and advance its innovations in golf technology. Drawing on its foundation at Binghamton and leveraging resources from the Koffman, the company is well-positioned to drive significant advancements in the golf industry and shape the future of the sport.
